When you are dealing with car insurance and you live in states like Michigan and New York, there is something that you need to worry about – snow. Warmer climate states do not have to worry about snow, however if you are in the northern states, you do. Now, as usual, the different parts of your auto insurance cover different things, so it is important that you know what your car insurance covers if you do get into an accident.

Firstly, you need to know that there are different kinds of coverage. There are Collision coverage, liability coverage, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, and medical payments coverage, all of which are different! While most people think of just auto insurance, they do not understand all of the different parts of them.

Because it is so important to try and save money right now, here are some bonus tips for getting cheaper car insurance!

Try getting a group discount, for starters. You may be able to get it through your employer, through an alumni organization, if you car pool, if you belong to certain institutions and organizations, et cetera.

You should also think about getting lower coverages where you can. For instance, sometimes older cars can be lowered from full coverage to liability. You may alter your collision insurance, your medical payments policy, or anything like that.

EFT payments — that is, you making them — can be helpful as well. Mail payments often cost money to make, and sometimes payments which are made over the phone do as well.
